I like to say, there is YOU, the other person, and this third element, which is the relationship. You could think of it like a bank account. You each have to put value into the relationship by being loyal, attentive, considerate, basically being loving. There is enough good, and trust that when something seems off, you can easily forgive because you really know this person.
